About the book

Alice loves food. Cupcakes, hot dogs, confetti cake—she adores them all! So, when her body starts reacting strangely to the foods she has always enjoyed, it’s pretty scary. Will Alice ever be able to eat her favourite treats again?

Alice’s Allergies tells the story of what can happen when allergies develop, and certain foods start to cause trouble. Full of laugh–out–loud moments, this book will open up the conversation for children and families navigating food allergies and dietary restrictions.

About the Author

Food is love in Jessica’s family. Her fondest childhood memories involve being in the kitchen with her mother, making recipes and memories. When her first born daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease at three years old, Jessica worried she wouldn’t be able to make those same memories in the kitchen with her children and feared they would miss out on important food-based experiences with their peers. Jessica quickly decided to pivot and made a promise to herself she would put the fun back in gluten free!

Wanting her child to feel special instead of left out, she created a gluten-free confetti cookie—an inclusive treat that is sold across the province of British Columbia in support of children’s charities.

Jessica lives in Vancouver with her husband and three children. She is a philanthropist and serves on the board of her family foundation, the WJ Weaver Foundation. She is also on the Committee for Balding for Dollars, an organization within BC Children’s Hospital to benefit childhood oncology, hematology and bone marrow transplant patients in British Columbia.
